An Act relative to transparency in credit card fees
By Mr. Cronin, a petition (accompanied by bill, Senate, No. 204) of John J. Cronin for legislation relative to transparency in credit card fees. Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure.
This legislative bill amends Section 28A of Chapter 140D of the General Laws to enhance transparency in sales transactions by requiring clear disclosure of credit card surcharges. Under the provisions of this bill, any seller imposing a surcharge on credit card users must clearly communicate this fee to customers by posting a conspicuous sign at their premises. Furthermore, the bill stipulates that every sales receipt should explicitly state the amount of the surcharge and provide an explanation of how this fee corresponds to the seller's costs associated with accepting credit card payments. This measure aims to ensure consumers are fully informed of any additional charges when using credit cards for their purchases.
