Emergency Preamble

Whereas, The deferred operation of this act would tend to defeat its purpose, which is to forthwith remove regulatory burdens on businesses, including nonprofits, that exhibit and sell tickets to their own licensed theatrical and other public exhibitions and shows, therefore it is hereby declared to be an emergency law, necessary for the immediate preservation of the public convenience.

This bill proposes an amendment to Section 185A of Chapter 140 of the General Laws to regulate the ticket resale industry for events such as theatrical exhibitions, public shows, or public amusements that require a license. It mandates that any individual or entity involved in reselling tickets, or offering a platform for ticket resale, must obtain a license issued by the commissioner of occupational licensure. This requirement applies uniformly.
