An Act expanding truck safety requirements
By Mr. Brownsberger, a petition (accompanied by bill, Senate, No. 2343) of William N. Brownsberger and Steven Owens for legislation to expand truck safety requirements. Transportation.
This bill expands the applicability of the existing requirement under General Laws Chapter 90 Sec 7 that certain safety devices be installed on large trucks (class 3 or larger) that are leased, purchased or operated under contract with the Commonwealth.
Under this bill, these safety devices would also be required for class 3 or larger trucks that are operated under a contract with, leased or purchased by municipalities, utilities, wireless providers or quasi-public entities in the Commonwealth.
The required safety devices -- side guards, convex mirrors, crossover mirrors, and backup cameras -- can prevent truck crashes with pedestrians and cyclists, or reduce the risk of serious or fatal injuries if a crash occurs.
