Transportation and Education

Section 1 reinserts the currently-repealed funding formula to reimburse cities and towns for in-district special education transportation costs. Section 2 creates a funding schedule. To avoid any questions as to how this relates to transportation reimbursements within the circuit breaker post-SOA, we added a line to make clear that this is for non-circuit breaker costs. We also updated some outdated references, such as those referring to the "commissioner of education."Using FY21 numbers, Section 2 (the funding schedule for Section 1) would cost $47.9 million in FY26. This section creates a funding schedule for implementing the law that requires reimbursement for regular-day transportation costs.
