Requires DESE to conduct a study of the causes of chronic absenteeism (missing at least 7 school days in an academic year) that may be unique to Massachusetts or specific regions in Massachusetts, whether there are geographic disparities in absenteeism rates, and whether there are disparities in absenteeism rates based on whether students are participating in a career pathway program; findings and recommendations for resolution, if any, must be submitted to the Legislature within 180 days, with one extension of 90 days allowable at the discretion of the Secretary of Education.
