The bill ensures that cities and towns are fully reimbursed by the Commonwealth for costs related to mandated early voting procedures. The bill introduces a new subsection requiring the state treasurer to make annual reimbursement payments by July 1st of the year following an election, covering all approved costs submitted to the secretary of state. The bill also permits municipalities to create an Early Voting Reimbursement Fund, allowing these reimbursements to be deposited and carried forward for one fiscal year. Furthermore, the bill updates existing provisions to include the processes for seeking, processing, and approving these reimbursements as outlined in the new subsection.
