Notice of Public Meeting

The Racial Inequities in Maternal Health Commission invites you to a remote public meeting and listening session on Tuesday, June 22, 2021. The Commission meeting will begin at 6:00 pm and the listening session will begin at approximately 6:30 pm. The listening session will focus on maternal health efforts and experiences in Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin, and Berkshire Counties. The Commission is especially interested in hearing from People of Color, including maternal health practitioners, birthing people, birthing partners, mothers, fathers, and other family members affected by maternal mortality or severe maternal morbidity.

The Commission was established by Chapter 348 of the Acts of 2020, An Act to reduce racial inequities in maternal health. Its work over the next year will be to listen and learn from regions throughout the state. The information received from the listening sessions will be used to inform a report and a series of actionable recommendations centered on improving maternal health, with a specific focus on strengthening racial equity. Commission members are especially interested in learning about best practices, and barriers to accessing care. To that end, your experiences, expertise, and testimony will be critical. The June 22 public listening session will be held as the first of four Commission meetings focused on geographically diverse regions across the Commonwealth. We anticipate the listening session will begin at approximately 6:30 pm.

The Commission asks those testifying to limit their remarks to three minutes to ensure that there is time for everyone to speak. The Commission welcomes written remarks of any length.
