Event Description

Ninth meeting of the PFAS Interagency Task Force to hear from state and regional advocacy groups With testimony from the Massachusetts PFAS Coalition, OARS, WRAFT, Farm to Institution New England, GreenCAPE, and the Nantucket PFAS Action Group

The PFAS Interagency Task Force will hold its ninth meeting to review and investigate water and ground contamination of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances across the commonwealth on Tuesday, October 19th, 2021. The purpose of this meeting is to hear from our state and regional advocacy groups that have been tackling PFAS contamination in their communities and advocating for state and federal laws around the issue. These groups have done so much for this task force behind the scenes already, now is their chance to be heard publicly.

We will hear from the following testifiers:

From the PEER Group: Deirdre Cummings, Legislative Director MassPIRG & Kyla Bennett, Science Director/New England Director, Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility who will speak about Consumer Products and sites in Massachusetts; Sarah Woodbury, Advocacy Director, Defend our Health & Erica Kyzmir-McKeon, Conservation Law Foundation who will speak about Maine as an example and biosolid/sludge contamination; Nate Barber & Sean Mitchell, Nantucket Fire Department & Jason Burns, Fall River Fire Department who will speak about PPE and firefighter's exposure to PFAS; Andrew Rainer, Esq. & Matt Pawa, Esq. who will speak about the legal options to PFAS contamination.

Other Advocacy groups: Alison Field-Juma, Executive Director, OARS: For the Assabet, Sudbury, and Concord Rivers; Kristen Mello, Co-founder / Director, WRAFT (aka Westfield Residents Advocating For Themselves); Tania Taranovski, Director of Programs, Farm to Institution New England; Sue Phelan, Director, GreenCAPE; and finally Jaime Honkawa, Co-founder, Nantucket PFAS Action Group & Ayesha Khan, Co-founder, Nantucket PFAS Action Group.

This Task Force meeting will be held virtually and livestreamed for the public via www.malegislature.gov.
