Event Description

Fourth meeting of the 21st Century Agriculture Commission to discuss economic and community development on farms in the Commonwealth.

The 21st Century Agriculture Commission will host its fourth hearing on Thursday, October 19th, 2023 to review agriculture’s economic and community development impact on the Commonwealth. Commission Members, state officials, and members of the farming community will also testify on matters related to the current state of the industry and discuss avenues for economic development on farms in Massachusetts and how the state can more effectively support regional and community sustainability and growth in a changing landscape.

The hearing will feature an opening presentation from Rural Affairs Director Anne Gobi on agriculture’s overall impact on the Massachusetts economy. Invited guests will testify on the following topics:

Urban Farming
Agricultural Tourism (Agritourism)
Farm Microbusinesses
Farmers Markets and Farm Stands
Grant Processes and State Funding Programs for Farms

This Commission meeting will be held virtually and livestreamed for the public via www.malegislature.gov.

Commission Members will receive oral testimony from invited groups and individuals only. All other groups and individuals that would like to submit written testimony or other comments/questions to the Commission are encouraged to do so through Griffin Tighe (Griffin.Tighe@mahouse.gov) in Chair Hogan’s office and Rachel Klein (Rachel.Klein@masenate.gov) in Chair Comerford’s office.
