Event Description

Fifth meeting of the 21st Century Agriculture Commission to discuss food security in the Commonwealth.

The 21st Century Agriculture Commission will host its fifth hearing on Thursday, November 16, 2023 to discuss food security in the Commonwealth. Invited speakers will testify on statewide and regional food security trends in Massachusetts, the role and contribution of Massachusetts farms and farmers in combatting food insecurity and strengthening our food system, and a regional approach to food system resilence.

The hearing will feature keynote remarks from Congressman Jim McGovern and testimony from the following invited speakers:

Kate Adams, Public Policy Manager, Greater Boston Food Bank
Andrew Morehouse, Executive Director, Food Bank of Western Massachusetts
J Harrison, Interim Executive Director, and Becca Miller, Policy Director, MA Food System Collaborative with a presentation on The New England State Food System Planners Partnership’s new report: New England Feeding New England: A Regional Approach to Food Self-Reliance

This Commission meeting will be held virtually and livestreamed for the public via www.malegislature.gov.

Commission Members will receive oral testimony from invited groups and indiviuals only. All other groups and individuals that would like to submit testimony or other comments/questions to the Commission are encouraged to do so through Griffin Tighe (Griffin.Tighe@mahouse.gov) in Chair Hogan’s office and Rachel Klein (Rachel.Klein@masenate.gov) in Chair Comerford’s office.
