Event Description

Seventh meeting of the 21st Century Agriculture Commission, focusing on technical assistance and education in farming. The hearing will cover the UMass Extension Program, extension and technical assistance programs in other states and countries, the federal government’s support framework, and ongoing work to educate and support MA’s next generation of farmers.

The 21st Century Agriculture Commission will host its seventh hearing on March 29, 2024, to review the Commonwealth’s technical assistance and education programs and to consider opportunities to adapt programs to meet the evolving needs of the 21st Century. Invited speakers will testify on programs that aid farmers with continuing education and technical assistance. Testimony will be provided by experts with perspectives from Massachusetts, other states, the federal government, and other countries.

The hearing will feature testimony from the following invited speakers:

Brian Schilling: Director, Rutgers Cooperative Extension;
Associate Extension Specialist, Dept. of Agricultural, Food, and Resource Economics
Stan Lalor: Director of Knowledge Transfer, Teagasc

USDA State Conservationist for Massachusetts
Ali Mitchell:
Executive Director, Director of Northeast Extension Directors
Derek Costa:
Superintendent, Bristol County Agricultural High School

This Commission meeting will be held virtually and livestreamed for the public via https://malegislature.gov/.
