Event Description: Cannabis Conference Committee Meeting -- H.4206/S.2749

Today, Senator Adam Gómez (D-Springfield) and Representative Daniel M. Donahue (D-Worcester), co-chairs of the conference committee on legislation to reform Massachusetts cannabis laws, made the following statement:

“On behalf of our fellow conferees, we are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement on legislation that charts a more promising path forward for cannabis regulation in our Commonwealth. Prior to the filing of the conference committee report, the conference committee will reconvene today at 1:00 PM at the UMass Center at Tower Square in Springfield to formalize the agreement.

The legislation includes a new structure that provides clear accountability and enhances the operations of the Cannabis Control Commission (CCC). The bill creates new opportunities for small businesses to grow, while providing those historically harmed by marijuana laws with temporary, exclusive access to those opportunities. This bill will allow them to realize their capital and pursue innovative models such as employee-owned businesses.

We would like to thank Speaker Mariano and Senate President Spilka for prioritizing this bill and ensuring that we are able to address concerns from the cannabis industry, consumers, and advocates. We look forward to the House and Senate taking action this week and sending this legislation to Governor Healey for her signature."
