Section 295: Issuance of written prescription by duly registered licensed certified professional midwife

  Section 295. (a) A licensed certified professional midwife duly registered to issue written prescriptions in accordance with the provisions of subsection (j) of section 7 of chapter 94C may order, possess, purchase and administer pharmaceutical agents consistent with the scope of midwifery practice, including: (i) antihemorrhagic agents, including, but not limited to, oxytocin, misoprostol and methergine; (ii) intravenous fluids for stabilization; (iii) vitamin K; (iv) eye prophylaxes; (v) oxygen; (vi) antibiotics for Group B Streptococcal; (vii) antibiotic prophylaxes; (viii) Rho(D) immune globulin; (ix) local anesthetic; (x) epinephrine; and (xi) other pharmaceutical agents identified by the board through rules or regulations in consultation with the department of public health.

  (b) Nothing in this section shall be construed to permit a licensed certified professional midwife's use of pharmaceutical agents which are: (i) controlled substances as defined in chapter 94C, except for those listed in schedule VI; or (ii) not identified by the board of registration in midwifery as consistent with the scope of midwifery practice pursuant to subsection (a).
