Legislature to Appoint Members to the Special Joint Committee on Initiative Petitions

Committee will hold public hearings and issue recommendations

(BOSTON—2/11/2026) Today, the Massachusetts House of Representatives and the Massachusetts Senate announced their respective appointments to the Special Joint Committee on Initiative Petitions, which the Legislature established last week to conduct public hearings and issue recommendations related to each of the 11 initiative petitions that may appear on the ballot before voters in November.

The Special Joint Committee will consist of 10 members, with five from each chamber. The Speaker and Senate President will each appoint four members, and the Minority Leaders from each chamber will each appoint one member.

The House will appoint the following members to the committee:

  • House Chair — Representative Alice H. Peisch (D-Wellesley), Assistant Majority Leader
  • Representative Kate Hogan (D-Stow), Speaker Pro Tempore
  • Representative Frank A. Moran (D-Lawrence), Second Assistant Majority Leader
  • Representative Michael S. Day (D-Stoneham), House Chair of the Joint Committee on the Judiciary

The Senate will appoint the following Senators to the committee:

  • Senate Chair — Senator Cindy F. Friedman (D-Arlington)
  • Senator Brendan P. Crighton (D-Lynn)
  • Senator Paul R. Feeney (D-Foxborough)
  • Senator Barry R. Finegold (D-Andover)

The Senate Minority Leader will appoint a Republican member of the committee during Thursday’s Senate session.

The Special Joint Committee on Initiative Petitions will soon announce hearing dates for each of the 11 initiative petitions.
