Amanda Gormon (1998 - )
American poet and activist, Gorman was the first person to be named National Youth Poet Laureate. In 2021, she delivered her poem "The Hill We Climb" at the inauguration of U.S. President Joe Biden.
Elaine Weddington Steward (1963 - )
Elaine Weddington Steward is an attorney and professional of in the fields of sports management and sports marketing working for the Boston Red Sox. In 1988 Weddington-Steward was hired by the Red Sox working as an associate counsel. In 1990 she was promoted to assistant general manager for the Boston Red Sox, becoming the first African American woman and second female minority to hold an executive position in major league baseball. During her time at the Boston Red Sox, the team has won the World series four times and won the East Division titles seven times.
Weetamoo (c 1635-1676)
A sachem, or tribal leader, of the Wampanoag peoples in Plymouth, Weetamoo commanded an army of over 300 warriors to drive out European settlers who had begun seizing Wampanoag land. She was beloved by her people and incredibly feared by the English. She died crossing a river in battle but her story became a rallying cry for the surviving Native warriors.
