Bill Information

Presenter:
William N. Brownsberger
Status:
Referred to Senate Committee on Rules
This bill would increase the maximum property tax benefit available to veterans and their spouses who participate in "work-off" programs in some municipalities.
Massachusetts law gives local legislatures the ability to adopt property tax benefits for veterans and their spouses living in their primary residence who perform volunteer work for their city or town. Local legislatures can elect to offer a maximum reduction of $1,500 for a designated number of hours, provided that the rate per hour does not exceed minimum wage.
This legislation would increase the $1,500 maximum benefit to $2,000.
