Rather than continually burdening local budgets with significant early voting costs and expenditures that then need to be reimbursed, this bill would provide towns and cities with early voting funds in advance, not in arrears, based on prior years’ expenditures. Typical costs include additional personnel, overtime pay for hourly municipal personnel to set up, break down, and staff mandated early voting polling locations, overtime pay for data entry into the long-outdated Secretary of State’s Voter Registration Information System, and the costs of voting booths and privacy screens.
