Representative Velis was first elected in a special election in April of 2014 to represent his hometown of Westfield in the Massachusetts House of Representatives.
He attended Westfield High School, then went on to earn a BS at the University of South Florida, and a JD at Suffolk University Law School. He served as an intern for the Hampden County DA’s office, Hampden County Superior Court, the Mass. State Treasurer’s Office, and the White House before settling down to practice law with his Uncle, Ret. Judge Peter Velis.
Representative Velis is also a Veteran of the United States Military and served a tour in Afghanistan, overseeing all ISAF-NATO rule of law efforts throughout the Zabul province in the war-torn nation. He is currently a Captain in the United States Army Reserve and recently participated in military exercises in South Korea in August 2017.
