Establishing a comprehensive system of stroke response and care to ensure patients receive appropriate urgent care quickly
Strokes are a leading cause of long-term disability and death in the United States and Massachusetts. This FY24 budget provision works to provide the best possible care and save more lives.
Highlights
- The FY24 budget directs the Department of Public Health (DPH) to establish a comprehensive system of stroke response and care.
- Helps ensure patients are sent to an appropriate care setting, not simply the closest.
- The provision includes $1M for a statewide STOP stroke program for treatment and ongoing prevention services.
"Stroke is a chronic, deadly, and destructive disease that demands action from policymakers. What is particularly troubling is that in many cases the death and disability is largely preventable. We must act now to implement necessary reforms so that our loved ones can receive the very best care and treatment"
