AN ACT AUTHORIZING THE STATE RETIREMENT BOARD TO GRANT CREDITABLE SERVICE TO CELESTE LOUGHMAN.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
Notwithstanding the provisions of chapter 32 of the General Laws or any other general or special law, rule or regulation to the contrary, the state board of retirement is hereby authorized and directed to credit Celeste Loughman of the city of Westfield with the service she rendered in 1993 while she was on paid leave for the fall semester of the 1993-1994 academic year participating in the Fulbright scholarship program for the purpose of determining her superannuation retirement allowance pursuant to the provisions of paragraph (a) of subdivision (2) of section 5 of said chapter 32. Eligibility for said creditable service shall be conditioned upon payment into the Annuity Savings Fund of the state employees' retirement system of an amount equal to the contributions she would have otherwise paid into the retirement system for said period of service based upon the salary she was receiving prior to the commencement of her leave of absence together with regular interest thereon. Such payment shall be made in one sum or installments as the state board of retirement shall prescribe.
If Celeste Loughman is granted a superannuation retirement allowance on or before the effective date of this act, the state board of retirement shall recalculate said retirement allowance based upon the provisions of this act.
