AN ACT RELATIVE TO THE SALE OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES.

Whereas, The deferred operation of this act would tend to defeat its purpose, which is to provide forthwith for the sale of alcoholic beverages on the day following when Christmas occurs on a Sunday, therefore it is hereby declared to be an emergency law, necessary for the immediate preservation of the public convenience.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same as follows:

SECTION 1. Section 33 of chapter 138 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2010 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking out, in lines 13 and 14, 16 and 17 and 25 and 26, the words “or on the day following when Christmas occurs on a Sunday”.

SECTION 2. Said section 33 of said chapter 138, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by striking out, in lines 22 and 23, the words “or on the day following when Christmas day occurs on a Sunday”.

SECTION 3. Said section 33 of said chapter 138, as so appearing, is hereby amended by inserting, after the words “Christmas day” in lines 13, 16, 22 and 25, in each instance, the following words:- or on the day following when Christmas occurs on a Sunday.

SECTION 4. Section 3 shall take effect on January 1, 2012.
