AN ACT RELATIVE TO THE SWANSEA REDEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Notwithstanding section 5 of chapter 121B of the General Laws or any other general or special law to the contrary, the terms of the initial members of the Swansea redevelopment authority, both those members that were appointed by the Swansea board of selectmen and the member that was appointed by the department of housing and community development, shall expire on June 30, 2021, with subsequent membership of the Swansea redevelopment authority being appointed as follows:
(i) the department of housing and community development shall appoint 1 member to an individual term of 3 years, and shall appoint each successor thereof to a term of 5 years; provided, that any appointment that occurs during the middle of a term due to delay by the department or a new vacancy in the position shall be effective only for the remainder of the unexpired term; provided further, that if the department fails to make any such appointment within 180 days of the conclusion of the prior term or of a vacancy in the position, then the Swansea board of selectmen may appoint said member for the remainder of the unexpired term, and shall provide written notice of that appointment to the department; and
(ii) the Swansea board of selectmen shall appoint 4 members to initial terms of 1, 2, 4 and 5 years, respectively, and shall appoint each successor thereof to terms of 5 years; provided, that any appointment that occurs during the middle of a term due to delay by the selectmen or a new vacancy in the position shall be effective only for the remainder of the unexpired term.
SECTION 2. Except as otherwise provided herein, the provisions of chapter 121B of the General Laws relative to redevelopment authorities shall apply to the Swansea redevelopment authority.
SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
