AN ACT CONCERNING HEALTH INSURANCE BENEFITS FOR SURVIVING SPOUSES OF FIREFIGHTERS IN THE CITY OF BOSTON

     Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
     SECTION 1.  Notwithstanding any general or special law, rule or regulation to the contrary, upon the death of an insured employee who was killed or who died from injuries or illness received in the performance of said employee’s duty as a firefighter in the city of Boston, the surviving spouse of said employee may continue the group hospital, surgical, medical, dental and other insurance for themselves and their dependents under the age of 26; provided that, an application for such insurance is filed with the appropriate entity in the city of Boston and a method for the payment of premiums shall be determined in accordance with the rules and regulations of said entity; and provided further, that the city of Boston shall contribute not less than 50 per cent of the premium to be paid by the surviving spouse for such group insurance.
      SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect upon its passage.
