AN ACT PROVIDING FOR A GENDER NEUTRAL CHARTER IN THE CITY OF ATTLEBORO.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Subsection (a) of section 2-1 of the charter of the city of Attleboro, which is on file in the office of the archivist of the commonwealth, as provided in section 12 of chapter 43B of the General Laws, is hereby amended by striking out the word “councilmen”, each time it appears, and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the following word:- councilors.
SECTION 2. Said subsection (a) of said section 2-1 of said charter is hereby further amended by striking out the word “councilman” and inserting in place thereof the following word:- councilor.
SECTION 3. Subsection (b) of said section 2-1 of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the word “councilman” and inserting in place thereof the following word:- councilor.
SECTION 4. Said subsection (b) of said section 2-1 of said charter is hereby further amended by striking out the word “his”, each time it appears, and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the following words:- the member’s.
SECTION 5. Subsection (c) of said section 2-1 of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the word “councilmen” and inserting in place thereof the following word:- councilors.
SECTION 6. Section 2-2 of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the word “councilmen” and inserting in place thereof the following word:- councilors.
SECTION 7. Section 2-3 of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the word “councilmen-elect” and inserting in place thereof the following word:- councilors-elect.
SECTION 8. Subsection (b) of section 2-5 of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the word “he” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- the member.
SECTION 9. Subsection (c) of section 2-6 of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the word “councilman”, each time it appears, and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the following word:- councilor.
SECTION 10. Said subsection (c) of said section 2-6 of said charter is hereby further amended by striking out the word “he” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- the person.
SECTION 11. Subsection (a) of section 2-8 of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the word “his”, each time it appears, and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the following words:- the city auditor’s.
SECTION 12. Said subsection (a) of section 2-8 of said charter is hereby further amended by striking out the word “He” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- The city auditor.
SECTION 13. Section 2-11 of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the word “his” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- the officer’s or member’s.
SECTION 14. Subsection (b) of section 2-12 of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the word “he” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- the mayor.
SECTION 15. Section 3-1 of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the word “He” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- The mayor.
SECTION 16. Said section 3-1 of said charter is hereby further amended by striking out the word “his”, each time it appears, and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the following words:- the mayor’s.
SECTION 17. Section 3-2 of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the word “him”, each time it appears, and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the following words:- the mayor.
SECTION 18. Said section 3-2 of said charter is hereby further amended by striking out the word “his”, each time it appears, and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the following words:- the mayor’s.
SECTION 19. Said section 3-2 of said charter is hereby further amended by striking out the word “he” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- the mayor.
SECTION 20. Section 3-4 of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the word “his”, the first time it appears.
SECTION 21. Said section 3-4 of said charter is hereby further amended by striking out the word “he” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- the mayor.
SECTION 22. Said section 3-4 of said charter is hereby further amended by striking out the word “his”, the second and third time it appears, and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the following word:- the.
SECTION 23. Subsection (a) of section 3-5 of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the word “He” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- The mayor.
