AN ACT ESTABLISHING AN OPEN TOWN MEETING IN THE TOWN OF LEE.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Chapter 665 of the acts of 1968 is hereby repealed.
SECTION 2. The first sentence of the first paragraph of section 1 of chapter 471 of the acts of 1990, as appearing in section 1 of chapter 351 of the acts of 1991, is hereby amended by striking out the words “town meeting members,”.
SECTION 3. The first sentence of section 4 of said chapter 471 is hereby amended by striking out the words “ , other than that of town meeting member”.
SECTION 4. The seventh sentence of section 5 of said chapter 471 is hereby amended by striking out the words “with the exception of town meeting members”.
SECTION 5. The legislative powers of the town of Lee shall be vested in a town meeting open to all registered voters of the town.
SECTION 6. This act shall be submitted to the voters of the town of Lee at the next annual town election following the effective date of this act in the form of the following question that shall be placed on the official ballot:
“Shall an act passed by the General Court entitled ‘An Act establishing an open town meeting in the town of Lee’ be accepted?”
Below the question shall appear a summary of the act prepared by town counsel and approved by the board of selectmen. If a majority of the votes cast in answer to the question is in the affirmative, sections 1 to 5, inclusive, shall take effect in the town of Lee, but not otherwise.
SECTION 7. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
