AN ACT EXTENDING RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS FOR MEMBERS OF THE REGULAR POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS AND FIRE ALARM AND WIRES DIVISION OF THE CITY OF NEWTON
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any general or special law or local by-law to the contrary, any member of the regular police or fire departments and fire alarm and wires division of the city of Newton shall, within 9 months of appointment to such position, reside within the city or within 35 miles of the city limits, or within such distance of the city limits as established under a collective bargaining agreement negotiated under chapter 150E of the General Laws; provided, however, that such distance shall be measured from the closest city of Newton border limits to the closest border limits of the city or town in which the member resides.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
