Alan Silvia, A life- long resident of Fall River. Earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University, a Master of Science degree from Salve Regina University and he served in South East Asia during the Viet Nam Conflict obtaining an Honorable Discharge from the United States Marines. His law enforcement career is vast, including twenty one years of service as a detective with the Fall River Police Department. During that period he was involved in the investigation of all major crimes including rape, robbery, embezzlement and homicide. In addition, he served several years in the Sexual Abuse Unit where he investigated crimes of violence against children; interviewing, collaborating with state and local agencies, crisis, and intervention and court presentation. He developed and implemented a sexual abuse prevention curriculum within the Fall River School District, (SPEAK Program), and he provided community education in areas of child abuse prevention, rape, elder and substance abuse. His community service affiliations include: City of Fall River Planning Board, (Chairman, Present), South End Neighborhood Assn. (President, Present), Child Protection Council ( Past Board Member),Citizens for Citizens ( Past Board Member),Greater Fall River Alcoholism Council (Past Board Member),Greater New Bedford Coalition of Domestic Violence (Past Member) Kennedy – Donovan Center, Inc. – Human Rights Committee (Past Member).
