Representative Josh Tarsky began his studies at Yale University in the fall of 2001. Following the September 11 attacks, he found himself asking a simple question: “Why not me?” After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Army and served as a Special Forces soldier, earning the Green Beret. His military service included two tours in Afghanistan and a deployment to Honduras.

His experiences in the military deepened his appreciation for the role that strong educational institutions, sound laws, and effective government play in people's lives. After completing his active military service, Josh earned a master's degree in education from Harvard University and a Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School while teaching at Lawrence High School.

Josh later transitioned into school administration, serving as assistant principal of Sandwich High School and principal of Holbrook Middle-High School before being elected to represent the 13th Norfolk District in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. He continues to serve in the Massachusetts National Guard as a major and Judge Advocate General officer.
