S.1826
By Request
SD914 By Ms. Gobi (by request), a petition (accompanied by bill, Senate, No. 1826) of Carla Charter and Robert L. Hedlund for legislation relative to establishing an autism spectrum disorder designation on driver’s licenses and identification cards and criminal justice training relative to autism spectrum disorders. Transportation.

Sen. Hedlund grew up in Hingham and graduated from Hingham Public Schools. As a teenager, he took over his grandfather’s truck repair business in Quincy and became active in the South Shore Chamber of Commerce. Frustrated with the direction of state government, he launched a two-year campaign that saw him defeat two older and better funded candidates in the 1990 primary on his way to unseating a 26-year incumbent. After losing his seat during the 1992 election, he won it back in 1994 and has held it since, thanks to an independent voting record, a belief in constituent service, and a platform of low taxes, smaller government and civil liberties.
