AN ACT RELATIVE TO ORGAN RETENTION

     Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same as follows:
     SECTION 1.  The first paragraph of section 13 of chapter 38 of the General Laws, as amended by section 2 of chapter 196 of the acts of 2013, is hereby further amended by inserting after the first sentence, the following sentence:-  If upon release of the body, any whole body part or organ of the deceased has been retained by the office, the authorized person receiving the body shall be so informed.
     SECTION 2.  The second paragraph of said section 13 of said chapter 38, as appearing in the 2012 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after the second sentence, the following sentence:-  No body part or organ may be retained for purposes other than determining the cause of death without consent from the deceased's next of kin.
