AN ACT INCREASING THE NUMBER OF SELECTMEN IN THE TOWN OF SHERBORN

     Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same as follows:
     SECTION 1.  Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, the board of selectmen of the town of Sherborn shall consist of 5 members elected by the voters for 3-year terms, so arranged that the term of office of at least 1 member, but not more than 2 members, shall expire each year. The board of selectmen shall annually elect a chairperson from among its members. Members of the board of selectmen in office on the effective date of this act shall serve until the terms for which they have been elected have expired.
     SECTION 2.  This act shall be submitted to the voters of the town of Sherborn at the next annual town meeting or at a special town meeting preceding the town’s annual town meeting that is called for the purpose of voting on the town’s acceptance of this act. The form of the question that shall be placed on the official warrant to be used at that town meeting shall be as follows:
     ”Shall an act passed by the general court in the year 2014, entitled ‘An act increasing the number of Selectmen in the town of Sherborn’ be accepted?”
     This act shall become effective if accepted by majority vote of the persons present and voting at that town meeting. At the first annual town election which occurs at least 60 days after the acceptance of this act, the town shall elect on its official ballot 2 additional members of the board of selectmen, 1 for a term of 2 years, and 1 for a term of 1 year, and provided that their successors shall be elected for a term of 3 years.
