AN ACT ELIMINATING THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS OF THE TOWN OF ACUSHNET.

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same as follows:
    SECTION 1.  (a) Chapter 3 of the charter of the town of Acushnet, on file in the office of the archivist of the commonwealth, as provided in section 12 of chapter 43B of the General Laws, is hereby amended by striking out section 10.
    (b)  On the effective date of this act, the terms of any incumbent members of the board of public works of the town of Acushnet shall immediately terminate.
    (c)  The powers, duties and responsibilities of the board of public works shall be transferred to the board of selectmen of the town of Acushnet.  No contracts or liabilities in force on the effective date of this act shall be affected by the abolition of the board of public works and the board of selectmen shall in all respects be the lawful successor of said board of public works.  The board of selectmen may, at its discretion, delegate the powers, duties and responsibilities of the former board of public works to another entity.
    SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect upon its passage.
