AN ACT DESIGNATING EACH OF 2 CERTAIN BRIDGES IN THE TOWN OF BARNSTABLE AS THE U.S. NAVY SEAL KEVIN A. HOUSTON VETERANS MEMORIAL BRIDGE

     Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same as follows:
     SECTION 1.  The 2 bridges on U.S. highway route 6, spanning state highway route 132 in the town of Barnstable shall each be designated and known as the U.S. Navy SEAL Kevin A. Houston Veterans Memorial Bridge, in honor and recognition of U.S. Navy SEAL Kevin A. Houston and all other Cape Cod and Islands residents who have served with distinction in the United States armed forces. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation shall erect and maintain suitable markers bearing the designation in compliance with the standards of the department. 
     SECTION 2.  The Massachusetts Department of Transportation shall erect and maintain conspicuous signs, plaques, or markers on either side of the bridges for the purpose of recognizing U.S. Navy Special Warfare Operator Chief Petty Officer Kevin A. Houston stating, “The Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the citizens of Cape Cod hereby recognize the sacrifice of United States Navy Special Warfare Operator Chief Petty Officer (SEAL) Kevin A. Houston, who gave his life in service of his country in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan on August 6, 2011” and shall comply with the standards of the department.
     SECTION 3.  This act shall take effect upon its passage.
