AN ACT AUTHORIZING THE TOWN OF WHATELY TO CONTINUE THE EMPLOYMENT OF JOHN HANNUM

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

SECTION 1.  Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, John Hannum, the fire chief of the town of Whately, may continue in his position beyond the age of retirement of 65 until the date of his retirement or the date he is removed or suspended from office by the select board of the town of Whately in accordance with applicable laws, rules or regulations; provided, however, that he remains physically and mentally capable of performing the duties of the position. John Hannum shall not remain in service as fire chief beyond the age of 69. If requested, John Hannum shall, at the expense of the town, be examined by an impartial physician designated by the select board of the town of Whately to determine his capacity. No deductions shall be made from the regular compensation of John Hannum pursuant to chapter 32 of the General Laws for any service subsequent to June 17, 2018 and upon retirement John Hannum shall receive a superannuation retirement allowance equal to that which he would have been entitled had he retired on June 17, 2018.

SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect upon its passage.
