AN ACT RELATIVE TO ELECTIONS FOR FIRE DISTRICT NUMBER 2 IN THE TOWN OF SOUTH HADLEY.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

SECTION 1.  Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, fire district number 2 in the town of South Hadley, referred to in this act as “the district,” may hold its annual district election on the same day, at the same time and location as the annual election of the town of South Hadley, as set pursuant to section 103P of chapter 54 of the General Laws.

SECTION 2.  The prudential committee of the district shall designate the date and polling place for the annual district election at least 20 days before the election.  If the location of a polling place for the annual district election is changed, the prudential committee of the district shall post printed descriptions of the polling place and may give further notice thereof as the prudential committee may determine.

SECTION 3.  The district may, by vote of a majority of the prudential committee, at a meeting held at least 60 days before the election at which electronic voting tabulator machines or other voting machines are to be used, determine upon and purchase, lease or lease with an option to purchase 1 or more voting machines and order the use thereof at all district elections, until otherwise ordered by the prudential committee; provided, that the district shall use electronic voting tabulator machines or other voting machines that are approved by the state secretary or used by the town of South Hadley. 

SECTION 4.  Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, the prudential committee the district may designate a polling place outside the geographical boundaries of fire district number 2 for the annual district election; provided, that the location is within the town of South Hadley.  

SECTION 5.  This act shall take effect upon its passage.
