AN ACT MAKING THE CHARTER OF THE TOWN OF SUDBURY GENDER NEUTRAL
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. The title of section 5 of part III of the charter of the town of Sudbury, which is on file with the archivist, as provided in section 12 of chapter 43B of the General Laws, is hereby amended by striking out the words “Board of selectmen” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- Select board.
SECTION 2. Subsection (a) of said section 5 of said part III of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the words “board of selectmen” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- select board.
SECTION 3. Said section 5 of said part III of said charter is hereby further amended by striking out subsection (b) and inserting in place thereof the following subsection:-
(b) Power and duties.
The executive powers of the town shall be vested in the select board. The select board shall have all of the powers and duties given to boards of selectmen under the constitution and laws of the commonwealth and such additional powers and duties as may be authorized by this act, by by-law or by other town meeting vote. The select board shall cause the laws and orders for the government of the town to be enforced and shall cause a record of its official acts to be maintained. The select board shall be the chief policy making board of the town and shall act by the issuance of policy statements and guidelines to be followed and implemented by all town agencies serving under the board.
The select board shall be the licensing authority of the town and shall have power to issue licenses, to make all necessary rules and regulations regarding the issuance of such licenses, and to attach such conditions and restrictions thereto as it deems to be in the public interest, and to enforce the laws relating to all business for which it issues licenses.
To aid the select board in the conduct of its official business and duties, the select board shall appoint a town manager.
SECTION 4. Subsection (c) of said section 5 of said part III of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the words “board of selectmen”, each time they appear, and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the following words:- select board.
SECTION 5. Section 6 of part IV of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the words “board of selectmen”, each time they appear, and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the following words:- select board.
SECTION 6. Section 7 of said part IV of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the words “board of selectmen”, each time they appear, and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the following words:- select board.
SECTION 7. Subsection (c) of section 9 of said part IV of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the words “board of selectmen”, each time they appear, and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the following words:- select board.
SECTION 8. Section 10 of said part IV of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the words “board of selectmen”, each time they appear, and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the following words:- select board.
SECTION 9. Section 11 of said part IV of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the words “board of selectmen”, each time they appear, and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the following words:- select board.
SECTION 10. Section 12 of part V of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the words “board of selectmen”, each time they appear, and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the following words:- select board.
SECTION 11. Section 13 of said part V of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the words “board of selectmen” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- select board.
SECTION 12. Section 14 of part VI of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the words “Board of selectmen” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- select board.
SECTION 13. Section 15 of said part VI of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the words “board of selectmen”, each time they appear, and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the following words:- select board.
SECTION 14. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
