AN ACT DESIGNATING A CERTAIN BRIDGE IN THE CITY OF HAVERHILL AS THE TED AND MARY MURPHY BRIDGE

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

The bridge on Hilldale avenue spanning interstate highway 495, designated as bridge department numbers H12046 and H12047, in the city of Haverhill shall be designated and known as the Ted and Mary Murphy Bridge, in honor of Ted and Mary Murphy, the head professional at Garrison Golf Course, and his wife, in the city of Haverhill from 1969 to present and continuing. In recognition of their lifelong contributions to the residents of the city of Haverhill and the entire Greater Haverhill area through Ted’s golf instruction to countless young people, and with Mary’s unwavering support, their numerous charitable endeavors and their steadfast belief that civility, self-respect, confidence and true happiness can all be developed through sport. The division of highways in the Massachusetts Department of Transportation shall erect and maintain suitable markers bearing this designation in compliance with the standards of the department.
