AN ACT DESIGNATING A CERTAIN BRIDGE IN THE CITY OF NORTH ADAMS AS THE WILLIAM F. EVANS MEMORIAL BRIDGE

Whereas, The deferred operation of this act would tend to defeat its purpose, which is to designate forthwith a certain bridge in the city of North Adams, therefore it is hereby declared to be an emergency law, necessary for the immediate preservation of the public convenience.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

Bridge number N 14 016, currently known as the Greylock bridge, constructed over the Hoosic river on state highway route 2 in the city of North Adams, shall be designated and known as the William F. Evans memorial bridge. United States Capitol Police Officer Evans lost his life in the line of duty on April 2, 2021 protecting the United States Capitol Building. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation shall erect and maintain suitable markers on both the east side and west side of the bridge bearing this designation in compliance with the standards of the department. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation shall also place a plaque in an appropriate location on the bridge with the following inscription: “On April 2, 2021 United States Capitol Police Officer William “Billy” Evans completed his final watch defending the United States Capitol Building”.

Approved, January 2, 2023.
