AN ACT AUTHORIZING THE CITY KNOWN AS THE TOWN OF BRIDGEWATER TO AMEND ITS CHARTER TO INCLUDE GENDER NEUTRAL LANGUAGE

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

SECTION 1. Subsection (c) of section 2-3 of Article II of the charter of the city known as the town of Bridgewater, which is on file in the office of the archivist of the commonwealth, as provided in section 12 of chapter 43B of the General Laws, is hereby amended by striking out the word “his” and inserting in place thereof the following word:- their.

SECTION 2. Subsection (a) of section 2-12 of said Article II of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the word “his” and inserting in place thereof the following word:- their.

SECTION 3. Said subsection (a) of said section 2-12 of said Article II of said charter is hereby further amended by striking out the word “him” and inserting in place thereof the following word:- them.

SECTION 4. Section 6-1 of Article VI of said charter is hereby amended by striking out the word “his” and inserting in place thereof the following word:- their.

SECTION 5. This act shall take effect upon approval by majority vote at an annual or special town election of the city known as the town of Bridgewater, but not otherwise
