AN ACT AUTHORIZING THE TOWN OF READING TO GRANT ADDITIONAL LICENSES FOR THE SALE OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES.

      Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same as follows:            
     
SECTION 1.  Notwithstanding section 11 of chapter 138 of the General Laws or any other general or special law to the contrary, the licensing authority of the town of Reading may grant licenses pursuant to said chapter 138: (i) for the sale of all alcoholic beverages and wines and malt beverages pursuant to section 12 of said chapter 138; and (ii) for the sale of all alcoholic beverages pursuant to section 15 of said chapter 138.
      SECTION 2.  In addition to the licenses authorized by chapter 459 of the acts of 2010 or any other special law, the licensing authority of the town of Reading may grant: (i) licenses for the sale of all alcoholic beverages pursuant to section 12 and section 15 of chapter 138, of the General Laws as provided in the first paragraph following the introductory paragraph of section 17 of said chapter 138; and (ii) licenses for the sale of wines and malt beverages pursuant to said section 12 of said chapter 138 as provided in the second paragraph following the introductory paragraph of said section 17 of said chapter 138.
      SECTION 3.  A license granted by the licensing authority of the town of Reading for the sale of alcoholic beverages prior to the effective date of this act shall remain in full force and effect and shall be included in any determination of the number of licenses authorized to be granted by the town pursuant to section 17 of chapter 138 of the General Laws provided that the licensee continues to comply with said chapter 138 and the terms and conditions of its license.
