AN ACT DESIGNATING A CERTAIN OVERPASS IN THE CITY OF NEW BEDFORD AS THE ANDRE LOPES KOREAN WAR VETERAN OVERPASS

Whereas, The deferred operation of this act would tend to defeat its purpose, which is to designate a certain overpass in the city of New Bedford as the Andre Lopes Korean War Veteran overpass, therefore it is hereby declared to be an emergency law, necessary for the immediate preservation of the public convenience.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

The pedestrian overpass spanning state highway route 18 in the city of New Bedford, constructed pursuant to Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority contract number K78CN06 as part of the south coast rail project, in the vicinity of 618 Acushnet avenue in the city of New Bedford, shall be designated and known as the Andre Lopes Korean War Veteran overpass, in memory of Andre Lopes, who died as a result of injuries incurred while a member of the armed forces of the United States during the Korean War. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation shall erect and maintain suitable markers bearing that designation in compliance with the standards of the department.
