AN ACT REMOVING THE RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT FOR THE TREASURER OF THE COUNTY OF DUKES COUNTY

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

SECTION 1. Notwithstanding section 1 of chapter 35 of the General Laws, section 1 of chapter 55 of the General Laws, sections 143 or 160 of chapter 54 of the General Laws or any other general or special law, rule or regulation to the contrary, the treasurer for the county of Dukes County need not be a resident of the county.

SECTION 2. Upon the effective date of this act, the current appointed treasurer of the county of Dukes County shall continue in such position and perform the duties thereof until the expiration of the term for which the treasurer was appointed. Upon a future vacancy by removal or otherwise, the county commissioners of the county of Dukes County may appoint a county treasurer in accordance with section 1.

SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
