AN ACT DESIGNATING THE STATE PUBLIC HEALTH LABORATORY CAMPUS AS THE DOCTOR ALFRED DEMARIA, JR. CAMPUS

Whereas, The deferred operation of this act would tend to defeat its purpose, which is to designate the campus of the State Laboratory Institute as the Doctor Alfred DeMaria, Jr. Campus in honor of Doctor Alfred DeMaria, Jr., therefore it is hereby declared to be an emergency law, necessary for the immediate preservation of the public convenience.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

The state public health laboratory campus of the State Laboratory Institute in the Jamaica Plain section of the city of Boston shall be designated and known as the Doctor Alfred DeMaria, Jr. campus, in honor of Doctor Alfred DeMaria, Jr., a pioneer in epidemiology, former state epidemiologist, chief infectious disease medical officer of the bureau of infectious disease and laboratory sciences and assistant commissioner of public health. The department of public health shall erect and maintain a suitable marker bearing the designation in compliance with the standards of the department. Nothing in this section shall be construed to modify or otherwise remove the designation of the tower building under chapter 124 of the acts of 2009, and such tower building shall remain so designated.

Approved, January 1, 2025.
