AN ACT AUTHORIZING THE TOWN OF MILFORD TO CONTINUE LIMITED EMPLOYMENT OF CERTAIN POLICE OFFICERS ON SUPERANNUATION RETIREMENT
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Notwithstanding chapter 32 of the General Laws, section 2 of chapter 415 of the acts of 1987 or any other general or special law to the contrary, police officers of the town of Milford police department who would be subject to mandatory retirement on the last day of the month in which they turn 65 years old, upon retirement, may continue to serve as special police officers until the age of 70, for the purpose of performing police details or any police duties arising therefrom or during the course of police detail work, regardless of whether or not related to the detail work; provided, however, that the employee is mentally and physically fit and capable of performing the duties of the office. No further deductions from compensation shall be made under said chapter 32 subsequent to the employee reaching the age of 65. The town may, at the special police officer’s own expense, before service as a special police officer, require that the officer be examined by an impartial physician designated by the town to determine such capability.
SECTION 2. A special police officer appointed pursuant to this act shall comply with all requirements of chapter 6E of the General Laws, including: (i) maintaining certification and good standing with the Massachusetts peace officer standards and training commission; and (ii) complying with all annual in-service and other training requirements mandated by the municipal police training committee.
SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
